FAQ's

Where is your Marine Collagen from?

Our Marine Collagen is sustainably sourced from Norway (not farmed). We stay away from farmed fish as these can contain unpleasant extra’s.

Why do we need to take collagen supplements?

As we age the collagen within our bodies depletes, taking a collagen supplement helps improve these levels, which in turn can help maintain our skin, cartilage, organs, bones and tendons.

Why do you use Type 1 Marine Collagen over Type 3 Bovine Collagen?

Marine Collagen is superior to Bovine for beauty and skin purposes, due to its bioavailability. The Daltons (molecule weight) are far smaller, which makes the absorption into the bloodstream far more efficient.

What is the difference between Type 1, 2 and 3 Collagen?

There are 3 main types of collagen, collagen types contain different proteins which all serve different purposes within the body. Apart from water, collagen is the building block of the body.

Over 90% of collagen in the body is made up of type 1 & 3. Type 2 makes up 50-60% of protein in cartilage and makes up 85-90% of collagen in articular cartilage.

Type 1 found in Marine (fish). Type 3 found in Porcine (pig) and Bovine (cattle) if from hide, is dermatologically researched to help improve:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • improve elasticity
  • thicken fine hair, slows hair loss
  • correct weak or damaged nail beds
  • support the bone matrix (36% of bone is made up of collagen Type 1 and 3)
  • improve circulation
  • promote glycine production which builds leans muscle and helps burn fat during sleep

Type 2 found in chicken and bovine if from cartilage, helps to support joint and cartilage, it may:

Is PLA toxic?

In solid form, no. In fact, Polylactic Acid (PLA) is biodegradable. It is often used in food handling and medical implants that biodegrade within the body over time. Like most plastics, it has the potential to be toxic if inhaled and/or absorbed into the skin or eyes as a vapor or liquid (i.e. during manufacturing processes).

What makes your bags compostable?

Our bags are made from Kraft paper lined with industrially compostable and heat-sealable PLA, which makes them perfect for home composting.
The huge benefit of PLA as a bioplastic is its versatility and the fact that it naturally degrades when exposed to the environment.
For example, a PLA bottle left in the ocean would typically degrade in six to 24 months.
Compared to conventional plastics (which in the same environment can take several hundred to a thousand years to degrade) this is truly phenomenal.
